  • When a doctor works only at a hospital, does the doctor usually have his own medical malpractice insurance?
    Jordan X asked:

I'm happy with generalities, but if anyone has info specific to NY, that'd be helpful. I am curious really about two things: (1) Do doctors typically carry separate insurance beyond what is covered under the hospital's insurance policy? (2) Does the hospital provide a separate policy for each individual doctor or clinic, or is it one big pool for the whole hospital?

The doctor who reviewed my CT scan sent from up north had made a quiet comment that the previous doctor who saw me up north should have caught that.

  • How are malpractice rates determined for surgeons?
    brenton19812000 asked:

I am trying to understand what factors affect the rates that a surgeon will pay for malpractice insurance. Do new surgeons start at the same rate? What effect does a lawsuit have on a doctors rates? If a surgeon is sued, and the case is tossed out, does this affect their rates? What if they lose the case? Or if they settle out of court?
