sad.wing asked:

The facility that I work at, is under Investigation and there are several former caregivers that are in jail for alleged abuse, I want to protect myself (economically and civil wise) even though I am only a receptionist.
I Started working at this facility AFTER the alleged abuse ocurred, I am only thinking of the future, and I do have contact with the residents, I may not be their primary caregiver, but I sometimes speak and help them around and such.

You have not provided care, therefore you are ineligible for malpractice insurance. If you have not handled patients then you are out of the loop. The exception would be if you knew about abuses taking place and did not report.

  2. Kay says:

Malpractice insurance is for a licensed physicians and caretakers who could potentially be liable for malpractice lawsuits. You, as a receptionist need not worry about being sued since you work is outside of medical practice.

No. Answering the phone is not a professional exposure. And, malpractice doesn't cover ABUSE, as in, physical or sexual abuse.

    Sorry.

  4. src50 says:

Malpractice insurance is for medical (and other) professionals. It wouldn't apply to you because you don't practice.

You could look into some sort of prepaid legal plan… you make monthly payments and they cover all your legal costs if you need it for anything.

no…however, the reason *isn't* because you're a receptionist, the reason is because *abuse isn't covered by ANY insurance…

as that's not a civil matter, it's a *criminal* one….therefore, no insurance policy is legally allowed to cover anything regarding criminal conduct.
